Utah's Native American population totaled 29,684 in 2000. It is thought, however, that the population topped 32,000 by 1998 (see Circle of Wellness page on this site.)

In the 2000 census, San Juan County showed nearly 8,026 Native American residents, while Salt Lake County followed with more than 7,892 residents. Third was Uintah County at 2,365+ Native Americans and Utah County followed with 2,206. Statewide, some 8,500 Native Americans lived on reservations, and 15,700 resided in urban areas.
